H.H. Holmes (The Devil in the white city) Is a good read!
Being from the Chicago area we use to go on field trips here all the time. My Grandpa grew up there told me all about the tunnels under Chicago he did the electricity and part time Taxi cab driver down town.
Herman Webster Mudgett (May 16, 1861 – May 7, 1896), better known as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes or H. H. Holmes, was an American con artist and serial killer who had a hotel / Maze / "Murder Castle"active during The World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893. They were going to make a film with Leonardo DiCaprio. I think I know why not...
But Hollywood is strictive & deceiving, and changes the books, they did that with Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
Although the book was good. Seems strange all these were constructed in about 2 years, then shown and gone, all tore down.
They say they used something diffrent to build these building but the Museum is still there to this day.
They also burned the castle downs and H.H.Holmes He spent nearly a decade hiring and firing builders to add pieces to his house that included pipes for pumping gas into bedrooms, a room built specifically to suffocate people, and a murder basement where he would strip the skin from his victims. Then sell the skeletons for museum of medical students.
It was burnt while he was serving his sentencing, and he crused all the people who caught him. Say a lot died strange deaths. It's an interesting story. The nursery rhyme "London Bridge is Falling Down" likely refers to the Viking destruction of London Bridge in 1014 by Olaf II of Norway. This event, part of a Danish invasion led by King Sweyn, involved pulling down the bridge to impede the invaders. While the rhyme is a playful rendition of this historical event, it's also been interpreted through various lenses, including the cycle of life and death, pagan rituals, and structural failures of the bridge itself.
